Sound of Music Project
FREE Music lessons to young people aged 10 to 17 years for 12 weeks
Our Sound of Music project is all about giving young people an opportunity to learn one musical instrument regardless of their background. Research shows that the benefits of music education include improved academic, physical & social skills. It also boosts self-esteem, cultivates discipline, patience, and can introduce children to other cultures. We believe these sessions will build the self-esteem and confidence of participants and enable them to develop their horizons.
Each young person will have to choose from one of three musical instruments – Keyboard, Drum set or Electronic Guitar. Our aim is to help the young people to acquire their newly sought skills within 12 weeks.
The weekly 1 hour sessions will take place at the Link Thamesmead, Belvedere road, London SE2 on the following dates:
Saturday, April 23 & 30 2016
Saturday, May 7, 14, 21 & 28 2016
Saturday, June 4, 11, 18 & 25 2016
Saturday July 2 & 9 2016
There will be an end of project concert on Saturday, July 16 where participants will be celebrated and they will have the opportunity showcase their talents. This event will be open to their families and friends. To register your young people, please send an email to info@daylightacademy.org with the child’s name, age & choice of musical instrument. Places are limited so they will be offered on a first come first serve basis. We are also looking for volunteers to help out on the project, travel costs will reimbursed to volunteers.
